The reality of Travel Blogging wouldn’t suit everyone, we are not all in a position where we can decide we are going to give up our jobs, lock up our home and leave everything we know to travel the world and blog but it’s a more common practice than it would have been five years ago. In fact, more families have made the move to change their lifestyles, taken their Children out of school and travel the world, whilst they do this, they are documenting their adventures through a blog but it isn’t for everyone.
The idea that we can work from home and blog is an attractive one and many do this in their spare time, taking a giant leap and deciding that you are going to travel and blog is a very personal choice and the circumstances have to be right. The other really important aspect to consider is that travel blogging just for the money can be a misguided way of going about something. Many who decide to take time out from their jobs and travel for a year, do so because they love traveling, love seeing different places and want to explore. It’s a lifestyle choice before earning money comes into it.
There are many websites that will sell the dream of travelling the world, working from home and blogging about your experiences, the reality in the middle is often glossed over and any of us can find a website that makes creating a travel blog seem like a dream come true. Its not all hard work and negativities but it is a job and one that you will have to take seriously. The blogging will start from the beginning, photographs, blog entries will all start from the moment you embark on your journey, at the Airport, on the plane and when you reach your destination, in fact you will be documenting everything you do constantly and leaving any actual blogging until you get back home after your fantastic holiday is unheard of, you will be right in there blogging as you go.
A travel Blog, like any blog will not be an overnight success, you will have to build your blog over time and it can take up to two years to get your writings visible on the internet, the key then is to attract readers and keep them. The success of your blog will depend on how much you write, what you are writing about and how much you expose it on various websites and social media sites. This brings us back to travel blogging being so much more than just embarking on a journey and earning lots of money from it, many families that take a year out to just that, do so for many other reasons. It may be that you want to educate your Children in a different way, you want to see parts of the world that you have never seen, the blogging comes second to any real reason you decide to make this massive decision. The other important thing to consider are funds and unbelievably this is often a last thought for many. There will not be a stream of income simply because you are documenting your travels, you will have to fund the travels for quite some time before you can see your blog gain traction. If you haven’t got the funds to take a year out or the funds to keep you going when you are there, it won’t happen at all.
If you are still interested in travel blogging after considering all of the above, this may well be the right thing for you and if it is, you may well embark on the best adventure of your life and one that you will never forget.
