The amount of food outlets and takeaways are increasing at an alarming rate despite the news coverage of obesity and worrying Childhood Obesity rates. The simple reason lies in our lifestyles and the fact that whichever way you look at it, families sitting down for dinner together to a home cooked meal are thin on the ground.
We are all in love with this notion though and strive to eat healthily and together and there seems to be a divide between those that only eat healthily and religiously and those that have given up and have far too many takeaways despite promising to change their eating habits.
The food business market is set to surge over the next few years and this is a market that you can make a lucrative business opportunity from if you aim at the right markets and give people and families what they want. The simple answer to what families want is to eat healthily at least most of the time and they are not too bothered where they get the food as long as it is healthy. The temptation to go and pick up hot food when you haven’t been home since early and are exhausted is becoming more of a problem for many people.
The food markets that are going to do well and offer some real business opportunities over the next few years are home cooked foods, Roast dinners to order and food delivery services that service small areas and have a weekly or monthly agreement with residents. What people are most looking for is reliability, menu choices and being able to order and know they won’t be let down.
Other food markets that will do well include fresh salad bars stocking a selection of fresh breads, meats and salads that can be picked up to order or chosen at random to suit. Other popular choices include outlets that stock fresh foods including Global flavors, meat free alternatives and plant based foods including speciality foods and meals for those that require Gluten free.
We seek out and find takeaways because its easier and although at the back of our minds we know this is wrong, the younger generation are more inclined to accept this as the norm. A home business that targets a specific food market as above would do really well by focusing on one market and doing that very well.
If you have a good business idea for a food business, don’t dismiss it because you feel the market is flooded, the market is certainly busy but is it busy with the right type of food businesses, this is very much up for debate.
