Candles are certainly still very much on our list of must haves, they not only create an ambience, if you purchase the right ones, they can fill the room with any scent you desire. Starting a candle business idea may seem a fairly straightforward one but depending on how you go about it, will determine your success.
Many Candle Businesses start purely from a hobby only to turn into a business when the candles become popular and not all candles will become popular, you have to have a niche and target a small part of the market that ensures you get the sales you need.
Ashely Cook and Kristian Matthews did just that when they started making candles as a hobby. They went on to create an online business that is going from strength to strength and their business idea has a niche too. They realized that the chemicals included in many of the candles for sale that leave black marks around the candle glass when they have burned out were in most candles and they wanted to try a new approach. They purchased some materials and ingredients from Amazon to make their own Candles in the early days in preparation for their business idea. The candles included essential oils and scents including Soy Wax to make their candles burn longer. This organic approach appealed and having a strong selling point, the business idea began to take off and the Candles begin to sell.
The duo started their business opportunity predominately at shows, most notably The Cow Pie Country Show in Surrey and their candles sold out. In many ways what happened next was rather like jumping in at the deep end. They opened their shop Cozy Glow in Coulsdon, although their main sales were their online business, they sold their candles wherever they could. The business idea goes from strength to strength and both have now quit their other employed roles to concentrate full time on their candle business.
I think what the above shows is that with determination to succeed and perseverance you can see a business opportunity and make it work for you. The duo have realized that you need to explore what works and not be afraid to do so, only then will you know which way your business needs to go. They both kept their employed roles whilst they established the business and when the finances were right and the business needed more attention, they focused on it full time. They now rely on their shop sales but also their online sales and it is true to say, they have done a very good job.
