How To Overcome The Fears When You Work From Home.

Many of us want to start a work from home job, we may get excited and have lots of plans, this may last a few days, full of optimism, we jot down our ideas, imagine how we will achieve our goals only for the optimism to diminish as we begin to imagine the things that could go wrong.

There are so many successful work from home startups already out there, many find it hard at times but they keep going but for every successful start up, there are business ideas that never get past the thought stage and that’s a shame because it isn’t the idea that fails them, it’s the confidence to carry out that idea.

A recent survey of Americans found that one third of Americans are more afraid of starting their own business than jumping out of a plane. This is quite sad but there are things we can do to overcome that fear, we just have to be prepared to try.

Often we look at a task and we view it as a whole, starting a business has to be in bite sized chunks to be manageable. We cannot possibly achieve the whole package in one step, break down what needs to be done and take each step slowly until its achieved before moving onto the next one. The first step is to make a plan of what steps need to be made, under each heading, write the tasks to perform and until each one is done properly and you are satisfied, don’t move on to the next one.

If you are planning on working from home, accept from the beginning, there is no such thing as a perfect work/life balance and there never will be. There will be days when it feels like everything has gone wrong but you simply put it behind you and start again the next day. Always apply your goals to your life situation, you are not the same as everyone else and you must work with your life plans, goals and routines as much as possible without comparing yourself to others.

Have a clear routine of when you will work and when you will shut off from work. There will be times when the lines become blurred between home and work especially if you do work from home and you may need to start at the beginning and reschedule your working hours, places you work and routine. This is something you may constantly have to do as you progress through the stages.

Always reach out and accept support, whether this be support from your family and friends when you need it most or as part of online groups for business owners who are struggling with the same thing. Make a real effort to remain in contact with a supportive community that you can relate to.

Lastly, don’t lose site of what you want to achieve, in the days when you are no longer sure why you started in the first place, go back to your plan, what you wanted to achieve in the first place and reacquaint yourself with how you felt when you first had your ideas. Starting any business is hard and continues to be so for many years, amongst that is the feelings of achievement but these in the early days may be limited, don’t be so hard on yourself, you are trying to start your own business and that in itself should be congratulated.
